Toddler's Unbuckled Seatbelt Leads to Porter Airlines Flight Cancellation, Stranding Passengers Overnight
A late-night flight from Victoria International Airport was grounded after a child refused to secure their seatbelt, forcing all passengers to disembark and leading to an overnight delay.

Porter Airlines flight 444, scheduled to depart from Victoria International Airport at 10:30 p.m., encountered an unexpected delay after a flight attendant observed a young child unbuckled as the aircraft began to taxi. The safety concern prompted the crew to take immediate action.
The airline confirmed that the aircraft could not proceed under such unsafe conditions. Consequently, the flight crew made the decision to return to the terminal, requiring all passengers to disembark.
Flight Cancellation and Passenger Impact
The subsequent cancellation of the flight was attributed to a combination of factors. The airport operates under a strict takeoff curfew of 12:30 a.m. The time required to safely remove the passengers and their luggage from the aircraft, along with completing the necessary administrative procedures, pushed operations past this critical deadline.
As a result, other passengers on board were stranded overnight. The airline subsequently arranged for their rebooking on a flight departing the following Friday. A spokesperson for the airline expressed regret regarding the situation, stating, "We apologize for the effect this had on other passengers."
Regarding child safety, Porter Airlines' policy mandates the use of a child safety seat or an approved restraint device for children under two years of age. The precise age of the child involved in this particular incident has not been disclosed.
