U.S.·

An individual attempting to elude federal immigration and homeland security agents was fatally struck by a tractor-trailer on Tuesday, according to official reports. The incident occurred during an encounter where four occupants, including the deceased, fled on foot from agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). While attempting to cross a busy thoroughfare, one person was hit by an approaching semi-truck and pronounced dead at the scene.
The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) confirmed the tragic outcome, stating, "The pedestrian was struck by the tractor-trailer in the right lane and sustained fatal injuries on scene." The driver of the truck, identified as a 64-year-old man, promptly stopped his vehicle and attempted to provide assistance to the injured individual. The FHP is currently conducting an investigation into the traffic fatality.
Escalating Incidents
This fatality marks the third such incident within approximately a week involving individuals either fleeing from or engaging with ICE agents. Earlier, in Texas, a man was shot and killed following an alleged attempt to ram agents with his vehicle, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Another separate incident in Maine saw a man fatally shot while inside a vehicle.
Policy Shift Following Incident
Within hours of Tuesday's incident, the Trump administration issued a directive instructing ICE agents to temporarily suspend most vehicle stops across the country. This order represents a significant adjustment in policy for the federal agency.
