Illinois Governor JB Pritzker Suggests Trump Exhibits Signs of Dementia, White House Fires Back

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker recently attributed former President Donald Trump’s assertions about the increasing influence of socialists within the Democratic Party to what he described as signs of “dementia.”

Pritzker’s comments followed Trump’s declaration that socialism represents the most significant danger to the United States since its inception, including historical events such as World War I, World War II, and the September 11 terrorist attacks.

Governor Pritzker's Observations

During an interview, the Illinois governor articulated his concerns regarding Trump's cognitive state.

“Look, the man is continually suffering from dementia. I don't think he really understands what he's saying,” the Illinois governor told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins.

Pritzker clarified that he was not making a medical diagnosis, stating, “I’m not a doctor. I haven’t diagnosed anything.” However, he invited observers to consider Trump’s speech patterns: “I’m just suggesting to you that just look at the way he puts words and sentences together and thoughts and they’re almost divergent in the same sentences.”

To support his perspective, Governor Pritzker drew a comparison between Trump's current public appearances and those from earlier in his political career.

“Look at any of the videos from 2015 or 2016 and look at how he responded to questions and how he was at press conferences and then you fast forward and look at him now, I really think that there's something genuinely wrong with him,” he said.

White House Rebuttal and Trump's Stance on Socialism

A spokesperson representing the White House swiftly countered Pritzker’s statements.

“JB Pritzker is a slob and an incompetent governor who pushes blatantly false narratives like this in a desperate attempt to stay relevant. Instead of lying in media interviews, Pritzker should focus on fixing his broken state and do his job,” a White House spokesperson said.

The former President had recently reiterated his warnings about the growing presence of socialist ideologies within the Democratic Party, particularly after several candidates openly identifying as socialists secured victories in primary elections, signaling increased acceptance of the far-left movement within the party ranks.

Notable examples include all three congressional candidates endorsed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani — Brad Lander, Claire Valdez, and Darializa Avila Chevalie — who successfully won their respective Democratic primaries.

Addressing the appeal of such political platforms, Trump commented, “It’s too easy to get elected, giving everything away.” He added, “It’s easy for them to get followers because they make promises they know they can’t keep.”

Pritzker also criticized Trump for what he characterized as “regularly” threatening to wield federal government powers against political adversaries, asserting that the former president often speaks impulsively.

Pritzker stated that Trump “has these concepts in his head and he blurts them out without really thinking.”
