A confrontation over a parking space in a North Lauderdale, Florida, Walmart parking lot tragically ended in the fatal shooting of a 62-year-old Army veteran this past Tuesday afternoon. Authorities have confirmed that Bart Diguglielmo died after the incident, which occurred around 12:28 p.m. at the retail store located on West McNab Road.
Fatal Parking Lot Altercation
Investigators with the Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) reported that Diguglielmo and an adult woman became involved in a verbal dispute concerning a parking spot. This altercation ultimately led to the shooting. The woman involved remained at the scene and cooperated with detectives, asserting that her actions were in self-defense. Her identity has not yet been publicly disclosed by law enforcement.
Video Footage Captures Key Moments
Multiple cell phone videos have surfaced, appearing to depict critical moments leading up to and immediately following the shooting. One piece of footage reportedly shows Diguglielmo walking toward the woman, who is seen holding a cell phone in one hand. As he approaches, her other arm is raised, seemingly pointing a handgun in his direction. After a brief period of tension, a single gunshot is heard.
From an alternative perspective, recorded without audio, the video appears to show Diguglielmo bending at the waist before collapsing to the ground. What appears to be blood becomes visible through the front of his shirt.
A third video angle reportedly illustrates the pair engaged in what seems to be a verbal disagreement shortly after a vehicle vacated a nearby parking space. This footage purportedly shows the woman stepping backward with the handgun aimed at Diguglielmo, who has his hands raised. The video concludes with the woman remaining at the scene until deputies from the Broward Sheriff's Office arrived and took her into custody for questioning.
Investigation Continues, Charges Pending Review
Authorities have not released further specifics regarding the exact sequence of events that precipitated the fatal confrontation, nor have they indicated whether investigators endorse the woman's claim of self-defense. Diguglielmo was transported to Broward Health Medical Center following the shooting, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Homicide detectives are compiling their findings, and the completed investigation will be presented to the Broward County State Attorney's Office. Prosecutors will then thoroughly review the evidence to determine if criminal charges are warranted in this case. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
